Is uninsured motorist (UM) coverage really necessary?

Every day, Florida drivers share the road with thousands of other drivers during their daily commutes. Many of these fellow drivers are responsible individuals, doing what they can to stay safe and within the law.

Unfortunately, this can’t be said for all motorists. And as we all know, it only takes one treacherous, uninsured driver to inflict permanent property and bodily damage.

Florida is a no-fault state. This allows for some protection in accidents – up to $10,000. But when it comes to serious collisions with an uninsured or underinsured driver at fault, the costs rapidly accumulate: the medical bills pile up while the injured party loses wages due to time away from work. In cases like this, the minimum level of protection is rarely sufficient. Often, it doesn’t even make a dent. As a result, the injured party is left to pay all remaining costs out of pocket.

UM coverage provides more complete security for drivers. Instead of covering the bare minimum, UM can offers exponentially more protection. It’s one less thing for you to worry about if you are in a serious accident.

So although UM coverage is not required by law, it is a sensible investment in your own protection. And at Sena Group, we’re dedicated to making sure it’s an affordable one, too.
